Yet this apparent freedom remains conditional. Even here the artist exerts control—by deliberately selecting colors that correspond to the emotions and experiences of different periods in his own life.
Thus, even in the process of free fall, unfreedom inevitably reappears: as the inescapable outcome of any human interaction with the world, and of the act of identifying oneself within it.
Status
The artist’s personal story is captured across nine canvases, each preserving the moment of free fall of acrylic paint dropped from a height. To eliminate direct influence over the act of creation, the author devises a special device: at the press of a button, a large single drop is released and falls. During its descent the paint mixes randomly in the air before shattering against the surface.
